Ideas and Content

My essay includes appropriate content like my main character Antony and how he seeks revenge from the conspirators. I think i did better in my Julius Caesar essay than my Santiago essay. My essay may be shorter than my Santiago essay but i have improved on my writing and was able to get to the main point without carrying it out to long. I think that doing this essay was easier, because we had more practice. After all the class discussions i was able to get a better idea of the character, and put my thought on the paper more easily.

Organization

My introduction and conclusion are clearly relating to the topic, they all link to the thesis. I think i can improve my writing by being more direct in my topic sentences. Next time while writing i am going to try be more direct with my sentences.

Personal Growth

I personally think that i have improved dramatically between my Alchemist essay and my Julius Caesar. In the Alchemist essay you can see that i do not get to the point fast enough and that i am continuing to much and ending up repeating myself. In my Julius Caesar essay i got to the point faster and didn't repeat myself as much as the Alchemist essay.

SLR Reflection

I think i Learn Enthusiastically because i worked hard on this essay and was able to get my thoughts easily on to the paper with no hesitations. The discussions helped me, and by reading my notes before the essay i was able to write a well constructed essay which i am very proud of.

Collage Reflection

Think Creatively

There are quite a few of aspects in my collage that are creative. But, I'll only explain one specific example. Such as my 6-word memoir, which explains the lifestyles of the lost boys. Who have been unfortunately in the sudan war. These poor boys had to live with many problems everyday.

Reason Critically

The words I used definitely give detail in my collage especially, in the pictures given. These pictures explain what the boys are going through. Throughout their journey and the arrival, to safety. When people view my collage, they will see the horrific images, of their escape. The pictures show the gruesome hardships of these lost boys.

Communicate Effectively

These pictures on my collage show the difficulties and danger these people are facing. This creates awareness by seeing these difficulties and wanting to act. Bringing food and any other supplies which can help to give them hope and to be able to carry on.

Live Ethically

My collage creates awareness to all viewers. To bring effect of the pictures on the audience's eyes. My pictures display to me a scary lifestyle. But their determinations arrays the surplus of hope. They have perseverance to never give up on their country. My collage shows the difficulties of their childhood and adulthood. It will create an impact upon the audience to act upon obstacles given to these lost boys.

Julius Caesar Essay

Antony is loyal to his good friend Caesar, but after he is killed, Antony seeks revenge from the conspirators after they killed him. After the killing of Caesar done by the conspirators, Antony now looks for revenge. His loyalty between him and Caesar was strong, not just as friends but also politically. Antony depended on Caesar for his career, without him he would have nothing. Antony didn’t want to loose a dear friend like Caesar; he was very caring for him. Loyalty and revenge are a big part of the play, this really shows how Antony feels about the death of Caesar and also shows a side of him, you would have never thought of.

As we have already seen in the play, Antony is a very loyal man to himself and most of all the people of Rome, when Antony is with Caesar, even though they are considered best friends Antony keep things to himself, he didn’t like sharing his thoughts and feelings with others. But now that Caesar is gone, he must act to what the conspirators did to his loyal friend for no good reason. “ I shall remember:

When Caesar says, ‘do this,’ it is preform’d.” (Act one, Scene 2 lines: 10) Antony showing his loyalty by telling Caesar that when he is told, he will perform. Here he is showing his loyalty, showing Caesar that I am here to perform as you ask me to. I n strong friendships like Antony’s and Caesar’s, when having a friendship like that, there is always strong loyalty, and this like any other friendship there is always loyalty. O pardon me, thou bleeding piece of earth, That I am meek and gentle with these butchers. Thou art the ruins of the noblest man That ever lived in the tide of times. (Act three, Scene 1 lines: 255-257) Antony is ashamed of himself for being gentle and talking to these people who killed Caesar of no reason. He is trying to get the gods to forgive him for talking to these ‘butchers’ who stabbed his dear friend and he has been kind and loyal to them. Now he has to change and get revenge from what they did. In order to do this he needs to get the people on his side, he knows that he is right and he now needs to act right. He needs to perform the right way, as

Caesar taught him to. All Antony had to do was get the people on his side and go against the conspirators with him. This then stared conflict between Antony and the conspirators.

Antony is now furious and going to take control and get the revenge he is wanting. First, he needs to get the people on his side, but give them the good reasons why they should all go against the conspirators. Now that Caesar is gone, Antony has nothing, he doesn’t have a best friend anymore, and he has also lost his political career, Caesar would have got him a higher more money for his family. He could have been getting higher politically. But now he is dead he has nothing. Now he is going to get his way, with his revenge. “A curse shall light upon the limbs of men; Domestic fury and fierce civil strife Shall cumber all the parts of Italy; Blood and destruction shall be so in use,” Antony is now speaking to the gods, and asking them to help set a curse on the people who betrayed Caesar after all he has done for the country. Caesar is very arrogant but didn’t accept the crown the 3 times he was given. Blood and destruction will came to the city of Italy and kill the men who were apart of the conspirators and also the men who went alone with the killing and don’t mind that Caesar is dead. Antony is going to get revenge from the people who killed his loyal friend, Caesar. Bleeding piece of earth, here he is saying that everyone will die with this curse and the earth will just be made of blood, no living thing will be on the earth. “Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war, That this foul deed shall smell above the earth With carrion men, groaning for burial.” Antony telling them that the curse will be so bad that everyone will just want to die. Saying this he hopes to give the people such bad revenge that they will all be paid back, and think about their actions before they do it. Antony taking revenge is a big part of the play, he learns a different side of him, after his best friend, Caesar is killed he realizes that the conspirators are bad people who took away everything from him, even his life. Now that Antony has nothing, he is going to take revenge from the people and the

Conspirators. They must be killed so he doesn’t have guilt in him for not taking action to what they did to his mate, Caesar.

The conflict between the Antony and the conspirators continues until Antony will get his revenge. Loyalty and Revenge becomes a big part of Antony’s feelings and thoughts about the death of Caesar. Now that Antony is getting his revenge, he can now move on with his life and get back his career without the conspirators being a threat to the country or him. Antony using Loyalty and Revenge in the play, creates tension and creates the audience to wonder whose side they should be on and really think about what is going on.

The Lost Boys of Sudan - Peter

Trying to adapt to the American Culture, Peter, one of the Lost boys in Sudan faces many difficulties. As soon as he gets there he experiences many changes compared to his home country, Sudan. Peter had to learn different styles of living; he had to learn how to go buy food at a store. This compared to his country is completely different; in Sudan they would line up and collect their food, and make it from a fresh start. When arriving in Houston, he didn’t receive the education he was wanting, so then moved to Kansas. When he moved to Kansas he still had difficulties and challenges, like trying to get into a school. Since they didn’t have a proper birth certificate, because growing up in the wilderness, you don’t really need that kind of information. When he got into the school after Sudan sent his personal information, he got accepted. Peter also had difficulties with trying to fit in, because all of the other people where a different colour to him then he felt excluded. He was a lot darker than his classmates and peers. After fitting into school more he was able to go to basketball camp and enjoy his time in school, he also joined a church group, which had other members from different schools, and got to meet different people. When they were all sitting in the room, Peter also felt excluded because of the different beliefs and how you they pray. In Sudan it is way different compared to how the Americans pray, or talk to god. By getting into the high school he learnt a lot more about their culture, he also had his high school friends to help him throughout his new life in America.

This passage Act 1, scene 3 lines 1-40 and I am acting this passage with Freya. This passage takes place on a street in Rome between Cicero and Casca during a raging storm. Casca is very fearful of this storm and it’s implications. To him the storm is an omen of terrible things to come and that this storm is showing how angry the gods are. He has seen some frightful things during the storm and is at a lost of how to explain them. Cicero on the other hand is not all that worried about the tempest happening around them, and tries to calm Casca by explaining that when people experience things that they don’t understand they often interpret it to suit themselves and their beliefs. Often this has nothing to do with what is happening. Casca laughs off Cicero’s comments and heads home.

Who I would be?

In the painting, School of Athens i would represent myself as Aristotle because I acquire the same interests as he does in poetry, music and theater. I also contribute and participate in many activities as he did. In order to achieve happiness you must live ethically. This is also applicable in one of the schools SLR's, to live ethically. I think this SLR applies to me in achieving my goals in and out of school. I continue to show my friendship toward people like Aristotle did and respect them in every way. Aristotle was a great achiever in life and i hope to be in the future.

How can art mirror society?

Art can be a mirror in a society by the way the artist sees it. It will be only his interpretation of society that he is familiar with or his perceptions of it. Raphael saw the School of Athens, as a place for thought. The painting gave us his interpretation of the two views that were dominant in his time. The two men Plato and Aristotle represent the different view points of the school, but also represent how society was split between these two views of thought during the high renaissance. Plato's viewpoints say that the world transcends there is something higher, more perfect and greater. Raphael used red and grey on Plato's clothing, red representing fire and gray representing air. These represent the view of a spiritual world, that there is something higher more perfect. The architecture shows two separate thoughts of the time. Aristotle represents the non-secular views of the time. This way of thinking was more concerned with the world around us. What is tangible, what can we observe, and how can we make sense of the world around us. Raphael uses the colours blue and brown which represent water and earth to show this view point. Raphael showed an accurate representation of that time period as he saw it.

Princess Diana cared about the world around her. She was an ambassador for world peace, eliminating land mines, helping those less fortunate and just making the world a better place. Her status as Princess enabled her to impact problems of the world. She showed everyone can have an impact but because she had influence it helped her make a bigger impact in the world. All people could make an impact but everyone had to participate and contribute into making the world a better place. We need to get involved, volunteer to help out somewhere and get active in the world around us. She showed us that through kindness and caring we can maProxy-Connection: keep-alive

Happieness creates joy around sorrow,

Spreads like sparkling dusts,
It gathers in despair.

Happiness is a big part of people's lives, being happy is moving on with live and don't look back at the bad times in their lives. They move forward whithout knowing what has to come in the future. Being happy is when you are yourself, and you don't try to be other people or try meet their expections, and if they don't like you that way, well move on. I wrote this poem about happiness because in the alchemist, Santiago only does what he wants to do, and what makes him a happy person. He is always himself and never looking back to the bad things that happened in the past. If he did look at the bad past things that occured, he learnt from them, which helped him during the journey.

Follow your dreams, and who knows what will happen.

“I’m an adventurer, looking for treasure,” (Coelho 40). In the Alchemist a shepherd boy named Santiago is on a journey to seek his true destiny. His journey begins in Andalusia, Spain and later leads to Egypt in search of treasure. Unknown to Santiago the treasure is where he began his journey. During the novel, Santiago meets new people who help him through the challenges and tasks that he faces, they help him with his true love, Fatima. They give him guidance throughout his journey. These tasks and challenges help him understand the Soul of the World and Language of the World. The above quote is taken from the part when an old man gave him two rocks called Urim and Thummim, these two rocks made him feel more confident in finding his treasure. Santiago the protagonist in the Alchemist shows qualities such as bravery, determination and loyalty to achieve his destiny.

As his journey continues Santiago shows bravery by leaving his home to travel and find his treasure. Santiago’s father always wanted him to be a priest when he was older but this was never Santiago’s dream. He always wanted to travel, the only way he could accomplish this was to shepherd sheep. Santiago told his father that he wanted to be a shepherd and no matter what his father said he was going to be one. Travel needed a lot of money that Santiago didn’t have, but if he were a shepherd he would be traveling with his sheep, selling wool and making money. This is how his journey began. One evening Santiago was walking back to his tent. “Who dares to read the meaning of the flight of the hawks?” (104). When the stranger, the Alchemist asked him, he wasn’t afraid to say that he was the one who read the meaning of the flight of the hawks. The Alchemist to him was a complete stranger to him, at this point, holding a sword to his head. Santiago showed his braveness and proved to the alchemist he wasn’t afraid. Santiago wasn’t afraid to take a risk that is what he needs in his journey, he couldn’t be afraid of what was going to happen. “I’m not afraid of failing.” (135). The alchemist is telling Santiago that dreams are impossible if you fear of failure. Santiago said that he is not afraid of failure; he doesn’t know how to turn himself into the wind. This proves that Santiago isn’t afraid he just doesn’t know how to accomplish the task or challenge that he faces. By letting go of his familiar ways of life it allowed Santiago to face the challenges that lay ahead in the future. Santiago has shown that bravery can take you along way on a journey that is difficult to accomplish, determination will also take you along way on your journey.

Santiago is very determined to achieve his destiny: his search for treasure fuels his determination. “If you start by promising what you don’t even have yet, you’ll lose your desire to work toward getting it,’’(23) Santiago was determined to get the treasure he was promising people that he owed, like the gypsy, that they would get a part of it. This determination helps him go far and stay focused on his journey; it helps him want to seek his destiny. Santiago, the whole journey shows his determination by facing challenges and tasks, learning from his mistakes when he trusted the Arab man with his money and later on got robbed by him, listening to his friends by following his destiny and trusting their opinion and believing that he can find his treasure, he doesn’t let anything get in the way of that, when he got all that money from working with the crystal merchant, he could have gone home and get more flock but decided to keep on going with his destiny. By facing these tasks and challenges he is establishing what his destiny is and how to reach it. At the begging he just wanted to travel, then he wanted to go and search for treasure and now he wants to find true love and his treasure. Achieving his destiny is not easy for him he has to be determined and not get distracted. He is determined he will go back to the oasis and take Fatima and his treasure home with him. Bravery and determination have helped Santiago in his journey but loyalty has also been an important part of that journey.

Throughout the novel Santiago shows loyalty by remaining true to Fatima and wanting to stay with her and be part of her life. At this point he didn’t want to leave and follow his dream. He wanted to stay and forget about his treasure, until the Alchemist told him that if he didn’t go after his destiny, God would not help him. ’’I want to stay at the oasis,’’ ‘’I’ve found Fatima, and, as far as I’m concerned, she’s worth more than treasure,’’ (113). This shows the treasure is important but not as important as Fatima. They are both apart of his destiny. He doesn’t want to leave Fatima alone because he loves her. Since she is a woman of the desert and is willing to wait for his return. That is why he is being so loyal to her; he doesn’t want to lose her or he will have lost his true love and never find that same love again. When Santiago met Fatima, it was love at first sight. He said to himself that he would never leave her. Santiago showed his loyalty by trusting Fatima to stay there alone and not marry another man, no matter what happens. Loyalty means the world to Santiago; it helps him stay focused throughout his journey.

Santiago’s dream was to travel. Ever since Santiago was a young boy he had always desired to travel and his dream led him to be an adventurer seeking for his treasure. Bravery assisted Santiago throughout the challenges and obstacles he faces in his journey, especially when he met the alchemist in the middle of the oasis and was facing a life or death situation. Santiago shows determination by willing to go find his treasure and showing his loyalty to Fatima, the women he loves. This all help Santiago conspires his destiny and the meaning of life.

As a student I have learnt that confidence is a strong and important trait to carry in order to participate in my destiny, be it now or my future. Santiago shows in the Alchemist, that confidence is the key to success on his journey. Confidence helped him by facing the tasks and challenges, making decisions which showed him that he can really follow his destiny. Hopefully confidence will help me make wise decisions to lead me into a successful future and be a good participant in my destiny. In the present my goal is to be a confident student to guide me in learning and achieving good grades in whatever tasks I'm given. Confidence in myself that I myself am willing to face any obstacles that may come as I journey towards my destiny.

“If I were a boyI think I could understandHow it feels to love a girlI swear I'd be a better man” It seems like a lot of women are not treated well by men. When I listen to this song on the radio or at home I realize that often women are not being treated the right way by men. Sometimes in a teen’s adolescence guys treat girls like they are just toy. If she were a guy she'd do all the same things as a guy and then learn from it (unlike some guys who just keep doing it). I feel sympathy for girls that get treated like that. In my adolescence this has never happened to me but I have heard it many times from others. Often girls are upset that because the guys give no emotional attachment. They just think it’s cool to hang out and take what they want and don’t really seem to care. They hang on for a short time, when they see something new they split and go after it. It is important to see that the guy is nice, sincere, thoughtful and honest. Then you are less likely to be hurt. The decision to go out with the right guy is important and making that decision is a lot harder than people think. I hope I make the right one.

The picture I have chosen represents me because it shows two entirely different animals (cat and dog) who care about each other even though they are different. I am like this in a way because I don't judge anyone by the way they look or where they come from. I am very friendly and love to be around friends. Another reason I choose this picture is because to me my friends are family, caring and fun. We make each other laugh and we take care of each other. It doesn't matter if we argue or get mad at each other because we get over it the next day. That's what friendships are all about, that's what family is all about.
